“Competitive to a fault” sports reporter Jessica James, always just one of the guys, already has a lot of baggage when she is suddenly laid off from her beloved job. She leaves the Big Apple and heads to Boise for a friend’s rent-free pad and the opportunity to publish a romance novel, make fast money, and regain her equilibrium. Since she refuses to believe in romantic love, the romance-writing ambition seems hampered from the get-go. Then hot outdoorsman Fisher Kincaid offers to help her “research,” the sexual fireworks light up with a bang, and the chinks in their emotional armor begin to show. Will Fisher be the one man who can make it through the near-impenetrable defenses around Jessie’s bruised heart? The frothy, fun plot and intriguing secondary characters provide ample support for this opposites-attract romance. Agent: Kevan Lyon, Marsal Lyon Literary Agency.

Jessie James is unpleasantly surprised when she's pink-slipped from her job as a sportswriter at the New York Times. Needing a change of venue, and determined to keep earning money as a writer, she leaves the big city for Boise, Idaho. Unfortunately, her big plan is to make a fortune penning a romance novel, because they're formulaic, and therefore not difficult to write. Jessie is in for another unpleasant surprise: romance novels neither follow a formula nor are easy to write. But then, if she'd ever bothered to read one, she would have realized this. It's obvious Jessie has a lot of research to do on romance, chemistry, and relationships, and who better to experiment with than local sports doctor Fisher Kincaid? After all, he did volunteer for the job. Kaye's fast-paced and funny tale will appeal to readers who like their romance novels side-splitting and sexy.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2012, American Library Association.)
