Poetry is a fascinating use of language. With almost a million words at its command it is not surprising that these Isles have produced some of the most beautiful, moving and descriptive verse through the centuries. In this series we look at a particular nation through the eyes and minds of our most gifted poets to bring you a unique poetic guide. Wales, this proud nation with it's long history; sometimes rough, hewn from bleak yet beautiful landscapes, sometimes gently soft from its comforting voices has produced a long succession of artists and poets. In this volume we can trace the roots of its poets back the the 6th Century but also add Gerald Manley Hopkins, Ann Griffiths, Henry Vaughan, George Herbert and others who muse and write about a country they love to add to this rich tapestry. We've included poets such as Wilfred Owen who although not strictly Welsh was born on its borders and Rupert Graves who holidayed there and served in the Welsh Fusiliers; they have much to offer.
